About the Role

Schools Mutual Services is working with a primary school in Bishop Auckland to recruit a full-time Year 2 Teaching Assistant.

This role involves a combination of 1:1 support for a pupil with an EHCP and SEMH needs, alongside general classroom support. It is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in a Key Stage 1 (Year 2) setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support for a pupil with an EHCP and SEMH needs
  • Support the wider Year 2 class with general classroom duties
  • Assist the class teacher with lesson delivery and preparation
  • Help manage behaviour using positive strategies
  • Support pupils’ emotional wellbeing and engagement
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO
  • Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
  • Follow safeguarding procedures at all times

Requirements

  • Experience working with children in a school setting
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEMH and EHCPs (desirable)
  • Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or Level 3 preferred)
  • Strong behaviour management skills
  • A patient, resilient, and caring approach
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Right to work in the UK
